- Hearing: speech recognition and the wake word run on your computer.
- What the assistant remembers about you, as plain notes on your disk.
- Your projects, boards, plans and their memory, in a folder inside each project.
- Meeting recordings. Only the finished transcript goes to your model.
- Camera frames for gesture control, which are never saved.
- Your API keys and connector secrets, in your system's keychain.
Your data stays on your desk.
Ethlin is an app on your computer, not a website. Here is what stays there, what leaves it and where it goes, and what always asks you first.
- What a model needs to answer, sent to the AI provider that does the work.
- With AI included, that goes through Ethlin's server, which checks your account, counts your usage and passes it on to the provider.
- Web searches, when you ask for one.
- The words the assistant says, only if you choose the ElevenLabs cloud voice.
- Telegram messages, which pass through Telegram to reach your computer.
- Sending mail.
- Changing your calendar.
- Saving, deleting or sharing files on OneDrive.
- Deleting, sending and paying, whatever else is set to decide on its own.
- Every meeting recording: it reminds you that everyone has to agree.
You can edit the details in the approval card before you allow it.
Where your requests go.
It depends on how you run it, and you can see which one is running at any time: every chat and every agent carries a small label saying what answers it.
- AI included
- Through Ethlin's server to the provider of the model that does the work.
- Your own key
- Straight from your computer to the provider you have the key for.
- A local model
- Nowhere. Ollama or LM Studio answers on your own computer.
The AI providers Ethlin uses, the legal basis for sending data to them (standard contractual clauses), and where Ethlin's own server runs.
Passwords, keys and mail.
It never sees your AI passwords
Sign-ins to an AI company happen in that company's own tool or in your browser. Ethlin never handles the password.
Keys in the keychain
API keys and the secrets for mail, calendar and OneDrive are kept in your system's keychain, not in Ethlin's files.
Mail is read, not obeyed
Agents treat an email as information. They never follow instructions written inside a message.
You are talking to an AI.
The assistant and the agents are AI models. What they say, write and make comes from a model, not from a person, and can be wrong. That is why anything that leaves your computer on your behalf waits for your yes.
What it can't do yet.
So you know before you start.
Computers
- The Windows installer is not signed yet, so Windows asks you to confirm before it runs.
- The macOS app is not signed with a developer certificate yet.
- There is no Linux version.
Mail, calendar and files
- OneDrive is the only cloud drive; there is no Google Drive or iCloud Drive.
- Google Calendar and contacts are not supported. Gmail works as a mailbox.
- There is no contacts screen; the assistant searches your contacts for you.
Voice
- The most natural voices need a strong NVIDIA graphics card (about 10 GB of graphics memory) or Apple silicon, and a large download.
- In practice, it speaks and understands English and German.
Telegram
- Answers come back as text.
- It receives files up to 20 MB. Videos are kept, but not watched.
Meetings
- Only Windows records the other side of a call; on a Mac, only your microphone.
- Speakers are told apart only as You and Others, not by name.
- There are no live captions: the transcript is made after the recording stops.
Everything else
- Routines run only while the app is open; a missed one catches up at the next start.
- Studio makes no AI-generated video, and narrated tutorials render at 720p.
- A screen grab captures a whole monitor or Ethlin's own window, not a region.
